So there has been a glitch. Many of you may already know that Nolan collects photos from inside emergency rooms on vacations. Let's see, we have seen an urgent care and an emergency room in Fresno, San Luis Obispo and others! Well, it just wouldn't be vacation for Nolan without a fastpass to the emergency room.

On Wednesday night, Nolan was going down the stair well to meet us for dinner in the hotel dining room. He encountered a guy with two small dogs and although they were on leashes, they managed to attack Nolan and bite his leg. It isn't a large wound, but it did puncture the skin and bruise it quite a bit. Nolan didn't know how bad he had been bit, or if they had even broken the skin, and who really wants to have a confrontation on the spot with a guy with unfriendly dogs. So he came and showed it to Frank and I and the search began for the owners of these dogs - in a "pet friendly" hotel. Unfortunately, we haven't had any luck tracking these dogs down. So on Thursday, as we didn't know if the dogs were up to date on their shots, Nolan had to get some of his own.

We spent 5 hours in the emergency room in Celebration, Florida. He had to get very painful shots one in the wound, on in the shoulder and one in each "hip". It is a series of shots - the first on day zero, one on day three, one on day seven (Christmas Day) on one day 14 ( New Years Day) and one on day 28. The only place to get the shots are at emergency rooms. There is a shortage of the vacination and so it is only dispensed with the authority of the Health Department. Which today at 6:00pm I found out will not be open on Sunday (duh) in order to get Nolan a shot in Manatee County where we will be visiting Frank's cousin after tomorrow. So we have to stay an extra night in Lake Buena Vista and go in first thing to the same emergency room and get another shot. Then we can go onto Bradenton and worry about the rest of them when we get home. (that's the bright spot).

Last night we were contacted by animal control at 11:05 pm - after we had finally dozed off for the evening - they came by this morning as we were leaving for Epcot and asked Nolan to fill out a report. The frustrating thing is that we really could have waited a few days - maybe even until we got home to start the shots, and that would have given us a better "schedule" - one that didn't include miserable days to go to the emergency room! But such is life and into each one a little rain must fall.

The good news is that Nolan feels fine and the wound is fine - could have been a lot worse and we are all still having a great time. Everyone has rallied and had a really good day today. so GO TEAM SMITH!

Thanks for letting me vent!

Well, all I can say is, you are living a life of adventure. Gathering stories as you go, to share at some later date that will keep you laughing for a long time. Don't you wish it would be that funny at the time?? These are the ties that bind!!!!
Looking forward to seeing you on Christmas Day. We can send you on your way to emergency with a sandwich in your pocket! hahaha

A Super Bowl Love Story

In late August 1996, I attended a bridal shower tea for my sister in law to be, Melanie Hull.  Her Aunt Shirley had created a beautiful party out on the back lawn, flowers and china and everyone in girly dresses. But most lovely of all was Melanie. I fell in love with her dress. It was my dream dress. Floral print. Georgette. Flowy. Bell/Cape Sleeve. Tea Length. Perfect Tea dress. I “pinned” it in my mind. That’s what we had to do back then. I knew that if I ever married – and hopefully that dashing Frank – that was the dress I wanted for my bridesmaids.  Furthermore… I had always hoped that if I could, I would provide the dresses for my bridesmaids. I had been in a couple of weddings and the expense was always difficult. It seemed like kind of a boobie prize to me. Hey, my dearest friends in the world, please be in my wedding so I can shove you over the precipice and into debt. Oh and make sure you check out my bridal registry! In January 1997, I was pretty h...

Weekend Treasure

Here are some stock photos of the love seat, chair and ottoman we purchased on Saturday at the auction.  These pictures don't really do the set justice.  But we have determined that the retail price for these now discontinued pieces was $1899.  We topped out our auction at $500.00, so after sales tax and the 15% auction fee, we did pretty well.. paying approximately 1/3 of retail. As an added bonus, they were sold to us as "durahide" which means fake.  Frank and I used to say that Nogahide should have been named NOTaHide.  But after looking them up, they are 60% leather.. the parts that don't matter -the back, are not.  BONUS!  They are now all safely home and put away... where you say?  Where could you possibly have put all these lovely pieces of furniture? Oh, I forgot to mention that they are for the cabin.  The hope is that mice will be thoroughly repelled by the very idea of gnawing on cowhide.  And besides that, they ...

The Fourth

The Fourth didn't feel much like the Fourth here in Hawaii.  We were very surprised!  New Years Eve is a huge time of fireworks all around the beaches and everywhere you go.  But the Fourth, not so much.  We could have gone to one of three large fireworks shows on the islands, but we didn't feel like fighting traffic and people.  We opted for a drive around the island to explore new sights and places.  We drove through Hale'iwa town and investigated some kayaking rental places for later in the week.  We headed on up the island and around to the Turtle Bay area.  Years ago, my folks were blessed to be able to use a condo over in this area and always came home talking about the shrimp trucks.  If you know, or knew my folks, you probably know they aren't really "taco truck" sort of people.  However, we stopped at fumi's and picked up 2 pounds of fresh uncooked shrimp.  Never frozen, people! Heads, tentacles, and eyeballs still i...
