What a wonderful blessing to be able to come back to Oahu! All told, I think this particular vacation would have cost upwards of $8,000 but with points and lots of haggling (is that how you spell it?) we have so far only paid for the rental car - and that was a BARGAIN. Thank you Expedia/Thrifty. We had been led to believe that there would be no possibility for upgrades to a one bedroom suite before we arrived, even for more points. But when we asked we were upgraded to a one bedroom mountain view for the first six nights of nine- which is beautiful - for an additional 5000 points per night. A bargain. It wasn't an easy transaction as far as adjusting the points has been concerned, but we have a full kitchen for the next six nights and that is a huge blessing!
So far we have just been getting our feet under us. Relaxing by the pool and lagoons and laying in supplies for the week.
We are heading to the Honolulu Zoo, Rainbow Drive Inn and Snorkel Bobs today.
Pictures tomorrow.
Post Script:
We arrived at the Zoo and found it to be so rainy that we headed over to Snorkel Bobs and got our gear. They advised we go to the aquarium instead. Great choice. We learned lots about the marine life and saw hundreds of very rare or endangered fish. Then a quick drive to Rainbow Drive Inn - not pretty - but a Hawaiian institution for Plate Lunch. Yum.
